News and Analysis from the Aristotle Team

Recession Affecting Politics?

Traditionally considered recession-proof, politics may be experiencing some ill effects thanks to the current economic climate.

Walter Jones, Atlanta bureau chief for the Morris News Service, anticipates “more modest amounts than in recent years” as candidates file their quarterly fundraising reports.

But the belt-tightening isn’t just limited to candidates, Jones writes.

“Trade associations, the source of most political action committees, say they have their own financial challenges as their members drop out or withhold dues. As one association executive said recently, ‘It’s hard enough to ask a member company to pay their dues when you know they’re struggling to make a payroll. Asking for a contribution to the PAC on top of that just sticks in my throat.”

And while Jones’ analysis is Georgia-specific, the Wall Street Journal witnessed a similar decline among corporate PACs earlier this year.

If your PAC or grassroots initiatives have been hampered by the recession, Aristotle’s team of experts can provide you with an innovative and effective solution that meets your budget and, more importantly, your goals.
